Our Approach
At Connect Counselling & Therapy Society, our approach to counselling is grounded in relationship, safety, and respect for each person’s lived experience.
Healing is not one-size-fits-all. Our counsellors bring a wide range of professional training, clinical experience, and therapeutic approaches to support individuals, couples, families, children, and youth.
How We Practice Counselling: Client-Centred & Trauma-Informed
All counselling at Connect is delivered through a trauma-informed and client-centred lens.
This means we prioritize:
- Emotional and physical safety
- Choice, collaboration, and consent
- Empowerment and respect for lived experience
We understand that trauma, stress, loss, and life transitions can shape how people feel, think, and relate.
Our counsellors meet clients where they are and work at a pace that feels supportive and manageable.
Relationship as the Foundation
Relational & Strengths-Based Care
We believe meaningful change happens within safe, respectful relationships.
Our counsellors take a strengths-based approach that honours resilience, adaptability, and the capacity for growth that each person already holds.
Therapy is collaborative and responsive, supporting clients to:
- Build insight and understanding
- Develop practical skills and coping strategies
- Move toward goals that feel meaningful and attainable
Integrative Therapeutic Approaches
Connect’s counselling team draws from a broad range of evidence-informed therapeutic approaches.
Counsellors integrate methods based on their professional training, the needs and goals of the client, and the focus of therapy.
Approaches used across our team may include:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and CBT-informed, skills-based approaches
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed practices
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and attachment-informed work
- Somatic and nervous system–informed approaches, including Somatic Experiencing®
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Psychodynamic, humanistic, narrative, solution-focused, and mindfulness-informed practices
- Expressive therapies, including play- and art-based approaches for children and youth
Therapeutic approaches are always used thoughtfully and collaboratively, based on clinical appropriateness, client preference, and counsellor training. Not every approach is used with every client.
