Master of Arts in Counselling, Canadian Certified Counsellor, Registered Clinical Counsellor, Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner
Joyce has been working with women who have been traumatized by intimate partner violence, childhood sexual abuse, or sexual assault for over 13 years. Over the last three years, she has expanded her work to include people of all genders.
For 10 years, Joyce facilitated a psycho-educational discussion group for women over 50 who experienced abuse. In addition to her training in Somatic Experiencing® (SE™), she is currently working toward certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Joyce is registered to provide services through the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP) and the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).
Compassion is what drives Joyce. From a young age, she knew she wanted to work in a profession that supported emotional health and mental well-being. As a young adult, she taught primary school before returning to school after having a family to become a social worker and later a counsellor. She believes her life experience, skills, and natural passion for her work make her a compassionate and competent therapist.
Joyce has called Kelowna home for 40 years. She and her husband raised two sons who have since flown the nest.
In her spare time, Joyce enjoys the art of beautiful writing (calligraphy), making cards, singing in a choir, cycling, and spending time with her husband, friends, and her cat, Olive.
